The American Foxhound has an appearance very similar to that of a Beagle. The dog measures from 21 to 25 inches at the withers and weighs from 65 to 75 pounds. This breeds sleek athletic body is well covered with a short coat that ranges from black, tan and white, tan and white or red and white color combinations. Well boned, straight and long legs give this breed its legendary speed.

Although this hunting breed has adapted the name America, these dogs have existed long before the land has gained independence from Great Britain. The breed have evolved from the hunting dogs brought by Robert Brooke to the Crown Colony in 1650.

These excellent hunting dogs were highly valued in their country of origin. These dogs are favorite hunting companions of the British landed gentry. On a fox hunt, packs of American Foxhounds will chase the prey while hunters follow on horseback. Hunters will know if a prey is found by the change in the melodious barking of the hounds. The dogs are used by the settlers of the Crown colony to hunt foxes as well. However, because of the ferocious tenacious nature, it was rumored that the dogs were utilized by the English military commanders to track and hunt Indians.

The English Foxhounds were crossed and re-crossed with the dogs of settlers from Ireland and France until a new breed that has adapted to the conditions of the new country has evolved. The American Foxhound, a versatile breed of dog was born.

The American Foxhound, first and foremost is a hunting dog. An American Foxhound would be in its element if it is chasing a prey. The breed is endowed with an excellent scenting ability, an impressive stamina and a courageous and intense drive. An American Foxhound is an intense hunter, once a prey is sighted, the dog will not stop until the animal is taken. Breed name suggests that the dog is a fox hunter but American Foxhounds hunt other animals as well. That the dog will be highly valued by hunter is a given fact.

The breed has excellent hunting prowess is basically the reason why these dogs are highly valued. However, apart from the hunting prowess, these dogs are valued as well for their loving and gentle nature. Highly energetic while hunting, this dog turns into a calm, gentle and sweet family companion. This breed of dogs is not a one man dog. These hunting dogs form a strong bond with the family but these dogs are noted to bond closely with the children.

Dog joint pain is known as a form of pain that a dog is going through on his joints. Dogs, just like humans, are known to develop pains in their joints as they grow old. A lot of different dog breeds tend to suffer from this issue as they grow old. Dog arthritis is one of the most popular causes of the joint pain in the dog. There are certain signs you can look out for if you suspect your dog is going through joint pains.

Signs to look out for

The problem with dog joint pain is that you will not find it easy to see it with your naked eye. The reason is, it is the internal organs of your dog that are affected. If you suspect your dog has some pains in the joints, you will have to observe him more carefully. Any change in the way your dog walks may be a sign that he is feeling pains in his joints

If you think your dog may have joint problems, you can also pay attention to his appendages. Thickened or swollen appendages can be indicating a case of joint pain.

If you are dealing with a dog with pain in the joints, here is what you can do:

1. Give him an enriched food regimen: Vitamin supplements and minerals are essential in the health of your pet. Your dog’s food is the first thing to look out for when trying to alleviate the joint pains. Avoid allowing your dog to overeat though. Heavier dogs will definitely go through a very bad time dealing with their joint pain.

2. Substitute the stairs with a ramp: It is not easy for a dog with pains on the joints to climb stairs, a dog ramp will make it easier for him.

3. Do not forget to exercise your pet: Even though painful to move around with these old joints, you should still keep exercising your dog. The condition of your dog can be enhance just by doing daily basic exercises. That said, you should not overexercise the dog. Split the exercise routine into several smaller ones to make sure he does not get too tired. May be the pains in the joints do not allow him to chase a ball anymore but you can still take him out for a walk.

4. Always use vitamin rich dog treats to reward your dog for something he did that you are proud of.

5. Give him a proper bed to lie on: There are specially designed beds made for dogs that suffer from joint pains. You should consider getting one.

6. You should also consider massaging your dog: Massaging dogs’ joints is also known to help alleviate the joint pains. Make sure you do it very gently. It may take some few weeks to some few months before you start seeing good result but it is still worth it.

7. Avoid using wooden/tiled floors in your house: With all this pain around the joints your dog will struggle walking through smooth surfaces. Keep them away from him.

It is important to be patient with your dog. Dog Joint Pain can make your dog responses so slow you may end up losing patience. Don’t forget to treat your dog as it should be, He is in pain, remember. Understandthat he will not be able to walk and run like a normaldog anymore.

The very simplesteps listed above can trulyhelp when it comes to alleviating your dog’s joint pain. It is not advisableto buy pain relief medicine as they are known to cause severe side effect.

Every year, a good number of dogs will go through the ordeal of having some skin allergies. You may sometimes ask yourself how to determine whether or not your dog is allergic to something. The fact is if your dog keeps scratching all the time, he may have an allergy of a hot spot.

Scratching the body very often accompanied by paw licking is a typical sign of dog skin allergies. Take note: ear infection can also develop as a result of your dog scratching its ears for too long. There are a diversity of factors in the environment that are responsible for dog skin allergies.

1. Fleas

Bites by parasites can get a dog break out in flaky rash. For cases of flea bites, it is recommended to see a professional as soon as possible.
If taken to the vet, your dog will then be given a shot that will reduce the pain. There are cases where dogs ended up losing their coat as a result of flea bite, so please, take it very seriously. Prevention is better than cure. It is important to put preventive measure in place to avoid dealing with a case of flea bite.

2. Food Allergies

You should also be careful about what your dog takes into his system, before you know he may be eating something that he is allergic to. If you have taken all the measure required to prevent flea allergies and your dog is still struggling with some kind of allergy then you should consider looking and his food. Choose the sort of food that has substances different from the previous one. If you are sharing your food with your dog then you should stop it. Food designed for humans (usually canned food) are prepared with certain susbtances that can cause allergies to the dog.

3.Pollen

Air born substances can have an allergic effect on certain dogs. Watch out for pollen, molds and other air born substances. The seasons can be very influential when it comes to air born related allergies. You should be expecting a lot of pollen during the spring but during the fall it is rather the molds and decaying leaves that are around. If your dog has those type of seasonal allergies you will have to use some dishwashing detergent to wash it off the dog before washing them with their own shampoo.

4. Household Chemicals

Certain chemicals in your house may have very bad effect on your dog. It is safer to use organic cleaning agents since they have much less allergic effect on dogs and even humans.

Sometimes the problem comes from the dog shampoo. When it comes to the best shampoo for your dog, it is a trial and error thing. You will have to try different ones and see which one works better. You should give more value to natural once, but if they don’t seem to work you can try any other one.

Are you adding up too many different flea preventive at the same time? That is also known to cause allergic reaction. Consult your doctor if that is the case.

If you noticed any form of allergic reaction that causes heavy breathing along with severe reactions in the dog then you need to seek advice from a physician as soon as possible.

So, essentially, it is valuable to pay attention to signs of allergic reactions in your dog. They can come in the form of itching or in the form of rashes. The dogs eyes can water and itch. In case your dog show struggle breathing you should see a vet as soon as possible.

You have a good reason to feel uncomfortable with the fact that your dog has stopped eating. The fact that your dog is not eating may not mean there is a cause to alarm. Certain factors in the environment, sometimes can cause some dogs to lose their appetite. You can try many different ways to encourage your dog to restart feeding himself. That said there are cases where the loss of appetite may underline much more serious problems, in that case it is preferable to see a vet.

There are serious conditions that may result in your dog loss of appetite. Conditions like bloating, liver disease, kidney failure, dental problems or even cancer can result in your dog not able to eat. Typically, symptoms resulting from those conditions are: vomiting, constipation and passing blood in urine . If you see any of those symptoms then you should take your sick dog to a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Dogs are able to go a couple of days without eating, that may not necessarily be a sign of illness. Nonetheless, if you know your dog to be a big eater and all of a sudden he doesn?t seem interested in his food anymore then you should see a vet. This is specifically important for puppies and older dogs.

5 reasons and treatments for dog loss of appetite

    1. Dogs are not used to rapid change of the environment. In case you have moved the dog’s bowl to an area of the house he is not use to eat, he may not feel comfortable eating there . If you find yourself and your dog in such a situation, the solution is to give him some amount to time to adjust.

    2. In case your dog was most of the time fed alone and all of a sudden he/she find himself/herself being fed with other animals, that may also have an effect on his/her feeding habit. The feeding daily routine of a dog must be kept the same way, if any change occurs the dog may suspect something wrong. The inverse is as well possible. The only option refer is to allow time for your dog to adjust, you can’t force it.

    3. If you are dealing with an old dog, you should remember that they probably have problems related to their old age. Old dogs find it difficult to chew meat, especially when they have broken teeth. If your dog is diagnose with arthritis, you should know that he finding it painful to lean his head down to eat the food. In a case like that try to raise the food bowl higher so that the dog may not have to lean much down to get the food. (you can use a phone book to do that)

    4. You may not know this but vaccination can also be the cause. Always do some background search to know if the vaccine has such side effect.

    5. Don’t force your pet too much when he is not willing to eat. You may be dealing with a picky eater dog. The way to deal with picky dog is by choosing a feeding time. The bowl goes down for an hour twice a day and that?s it. When the picky eater gets really hungry they?ll eat.

There you go, above, i have listed for you the different options you can try if your dog has stopped feeding himself . If you think there may be an illness seek help from a veterinarian. If you are a bit imaginative, you can frequently deal with your dog?s loss of appetite at home. Yet you can?t ignore the serious health risk involved. You can get supplementary information about dog health if you visit this website where you will get extra informative articles about the health of your dog.

The key to having a dog pet that is enjoyable and fun is proper dog training. Most people think that dog training is teaching it how to do dumb tricks and competition exercises. Dog obedience training is teaching a dog to understand and do what it is told to do. The most critical aspect in nurturing a dog-human relationship is training a dog to be obedient. Training a dog to conduct itself in an acceptable manner both at home and outside is also the best way to detect, prevent and get rid of any behavioral problems that most dog owners face. Make your doggy happy and well balanced socially by following these simple Dog obedience training tips.

Tip 1: Set the training rules and make sure that you repeat them frequent and long enough for the dog to comprehend. The greatest characteristic of a dog trainer is repetition. You should therefore not tell him a rule only once and expect him to grasp it automatically.

Tip 2: You are the boss at all times and you must make sure that the dog knows that. By nature, a dog will try to train you to accept its behavior and communication, the key to successfully train a dog is making it understand that it is the students and you the trainer not the other way round.

Tip 3: Give clear and consistent communication signs throughout its training. Make it clear which of its behaviors are acceptable and which are not tolerable. Doing this will set very distinct guidelines for him.

Tip 4: Constantly evaluate your progress to make sure that you are impacting positively on the dog?s obedience. If you find some stubbornness, investigate and find the root cause of it and the proper way to handle it.

Tip 5: Reward the dog only at the right times during the training. If you reward the dog at the wrong time, it will understand the actions preceding the reward as the acceptable conduct which is not the case. If a dog takes an instruction and learns something new, you can choose to reward him either by playing with it its favorite game or giving it something it likes.

Tip 6: There should be only one trainer at a time during a training period. Having more than one trainer at a time will send confusing instructions and lessons to the dog. However, after the training session, different people can test the dog?s grasp.

Tip 7: Patience when training a dog is a very vital virtue. If you are training a dog and it doesn?t seem to respond, do not get angry or try underhand shortcut tactics because his will only worsen the situation. All dogs can learn it is just that each dog, just like humans, have different ways to understand things.

There are different flavors of dog obedience programs, ranging from basic ?Sit? and ?fetch? instructions to complex dog show behavior training. Dog obedience is not a science that should be left exclusively to the professionals. Follow these simple dog obedience training tips to train your dog well and not only will it strengthen your relationship, it will also be a lot of fun spending time with it.

Recall that puppies younger than 10 to 12 weeks have little control.

Residence education your puppy calls for that support of one’s whole family members member. Exceptional home instruction comes from consistency in you and your family conduct towards the canine by knowing and following the routines and understanding the rules set forth for that canine.

House training your puppy is largely a matter of, observance and persistence. Whenever you see your dog acting like he has to “go”, then you must instantly bring them outside to the area that you want him to accomplish his business and.

House training your puppy is the quickest and simplest technique for residence coaching puppies. House training your puppy involves nipping, biting, chewing, barking, jumping, leash coaching and bathing as well as potty exercising. This is all just a part of taking care of one’s pet.

Puppy proofing a room is incredibly similar to baby proofing a room. Just as you would put breakables and possible choking hazards out of reach of a baby, you need to get rid of the prospective for ones pup to make a mistake and reduce any prospective hazards from the room.

Pup residence instruction may be a big deal especially when you are challenged by a tiny space and dog parks aren’t extremely quickly accessible. You will discover choices on how to train your dog.

Pups have to eradicate as many as six times a day, as well as the sooner you begin the house exercising process, the less damage your carpets and furnishings will suffer! Household training a pup is easier than property exercising an adult pet.

Puppies up to about six months should be obtaining three meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Feed Puppy at the identical time every single meal and use a potty schedule that corresponds to eating. Puppies have a tendency to repeatedly use the identical location for urination and defecation.

As far as feasible avoid paper and pee pad education for your pup unless they’re the only alternatives for a toilet location to your puppy. Puppies are commonly fed 2 times a day so they’re going to have to relieve themselves quite often. Vets typically recommend that puppies have fresh food and water obtainable at all occasions.

Every person inside residence must take these steps each and every and every day. If one individual allows the pet to go inside residence he will usually go inside the house. Every person expects a modest baby to cry during the night and they attend to it understanding this specific stage from the baby?s development won?t last very long.

To me puppies are no several from babies in this respect and I like to give them similar consideration, to do this will mean a bit of inconvenience and getting up inside the night a couple of occasions to ensure that their daytime routine remains unbroken and there’s much less opportunity to soil inside the house.

Don’t forget that in case you ever face difficulties in Sirius Puppy Training, you need to always seek professional trainer’s support. Never give up on your pet.

Bear in mind, your puppy would like nothing far better than to please you. As soon as he figures out what it is which will please you, he’ll be eager to accomplish it! Recall this when taking your pup out for potty breaks.

Hiring a dog walker may be needed should you work away from the house to keep the schedule.
